Richmond, VA – June 5, 2018 – The Project Haystack Organization (www.project-haystack.org),  a collaborative community addressing the challenge of utilizing semantic modeling and tagging to streamline the interchange of data among different systems, devices, equipment and software applications, today announced they have published the fourth issue of their Connections Magazine.

The Connections Magazine Spring 2018 issue reports on the latest news from the Project Haystack community from around the world, since their previous Fall 2017 issue. The Spring 2018 issue documents how fast the evolution toward smarter buildings can happen once building operational data has been tag-enabled. Both IT and OT contingents are recognizing that metadata tagging is key to clearing hurdles related to ease-of-use, unified data flow, edge-to-cloud, data security and even adhering to new GDPR data privacy rules. Not to be missed is the fact that the storytellers in this issue, especially those that were interviewed in the Conversations section, are not solution vendors, but are from the ranks of design engineers, commissioning experts, smart building consultants and large-portfolio property managers.

Richmond, VA – March 2, 2018 – The ASHRAE BACnet committee (www.bacnet.org), Project Haystack Organization (www.project-haystack.org) and Brick Schema (www.brickschema.org) announced they are actively collaborating to integrate Haystack tagging and Brick data modeling concepts into the new proposed ASHRAE Standard 223P for semantic tagging of building data.

ASHRAE Standard 223P: "Designation and Classification of Semantic Tags for Building Data” provides a dictionary of semantic tags for descriptive tagging of building data including building automation and control data along with associated systems.

The Haystack Connections Magazine Fall 2017 issue reports on the latest news from the Project Haystack community from around the world, since their previous Spring 2017 issue. It includes updates on the progress of working groups, establishment of new tagging models, reference implementations, complimentary applications, and success stories from the community as they work together to make device data easier to use across applications of all types.

Richmond, VA – May 23, 2017 – The Project Haystack Organization (www.project-haystack.org),  a non-profit, 501(c) organization focused on developing common standards to streamline the interchange of data among today’s smart devices, systems and equipment, is pleased to announce that the 3rd biennial Haystack Connect 2017 Conference held at the Saddlebrook Resort near Tampa, Florida from May 8 – 10, 2017 was a great success. The conference offered over 30 Technical Sessions, intimate networking opportunities including a Vendor Showcase of exhibitors, live demonstrations, numerous keynote speakers and panelists, and a working meeting of the Project Haystack Organization. This year’s conference brought together over 300 industry leaders, end-users and corporate representatives involved in automation, control and Internet of Things applications from 14 countries, to share the latest techniques for managing, presenting and analyzing the vast amount of data generated by today’s smart devices and equipment systems in applications including intelligent buildings, energy, HVAC, lighting, remote monitoring, and other smart-device applications.

Richmond, VA – April 24, 2017 – The Project Haystack Organization (www.project-haystack.org) today announced its Affiliate Membership in the newly formed EdgeX Foundry. This follows the announcement this morning, by The Linux Foundation, the launch of EdgeX Foundry, an open source project to build a common open framework for Internet of Things (IoT) edge computing and an ecosystem of interoperable components that unifies the marketplace and accelerates enterprise and Industrial IoT. The initiative is aligned around a common goal: the simplification and standardization of Industrial IoT edge computing, while still allowing the ecosystem to add significant value.

IoT is delivering significant business value by improving efficiencies and increasing revenue through automation and analytics, but widespread fragmentation and the lack of a common IoT solution framework are hindering broad adoption and stalling market growth. The complexity of the current landscape and the wide variety of components creates paralysis. This year’s conference will bring together industry leaders, end-users and corporate representatives involved in automation, control and Internet of Things applications to share the latest techniques for managing, presenting and analyzing the vast amount of data generated by today’s smart devices and equipment systems in applications including intelligent buildings, energy, HVAC, lighting, remote monitoring, and other smart-device applications. The Haystack Connect 2017 Keynote Speakers and Special Guest Speaker lined up for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, May 9th  and 10th are:

  • Rita H. Wouhaybi, Ph.D., a System Architect in the Industrial & Energy Solutions Division of the Internet of Things Group at Intel®, will make her Keynote Presentation on “Beyond Buildings: Data Models and Project Haystack”.
  • Milan Milenkovic, Principal at IoTsense, will make his Keynote Presentation on “IoT Semantic Interoperability and Project Haystack: The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship”. The importance of IoT interoperability is widely acknowledged and touted by standards and vendors. Mr. Milenkovic will present his thoughts on the pragmatic path to achieving IoT data and meta-data interoperability in the world of competing IoT standards, and what role Project Haystack may play in that process.
  • Rawlson O’Neil King, Communications Director, CABA, will present "Intelligent Buildings and the Impact of the Internet of Things". This presentation will provide a high-level synopsis of “CABA’s Intelligent Building and the Impact of the Internet of Things” research project. This landmark research study examined many major aspects of IoT related to buildings, including: state of the market, trends, business opportunities, technical barriers and opportunities, along with future market direction.
