This presentation will provide a high-level synopsis of “CABA’s Intelligent Building and the Impact of the Internet of Things” research project. This landmark research study examined many major aspects of IoT related to buildings, including: state of the market, trends, business opportunities, technical barriers and opportunities, along with future market direction. The report projects that by the end of 2025, there will be approximately 70 billion IoT-connected devices and that annual IoT-related shipments will reach 18 billion devices per year. The study also found that IoT is not a specific device or technology, but is a conceptual framework, driven by the idea of embedding connectivity and intelligence in a wide range of devices. The report notes that the most attractive advantages of IoT-related building automation technology includes: reduced energy consumption, improved operational efficiency, improved financial planning; and increased use of building performance data.
