Speaker Bio

We are increasingly using wireless communications in our personal and business lives. Wi-Fi is now ubiquitous. We connect phones to local devices and our cars using Bluetooth, and Cellular Service is progressively providing better coverage and getting faster. The Internet of Things (IoT) is also moving forward with using more wireless technology. Particular types of Cellular Communication are being specifically aimed at the IoT market, using lower-cost devices that work on narrower bandwidths including 4G LTE, Class 1, Class M, NB-IOT, and the ‘proprietary’ solutions of LORA and Sigfox.

This presentation looks at the technical and market significance of these various methods to connect our sites and devices to Enterprise Servers. The short-distance wireless world is also evolving fast, with standards like Thread and Bluetooth 5, challenging the existing Zigbee, Z-Wave and EnOcean technologies. We will explore the changes and challenges occurring in the short-range wireless world and their effects on IoT.
