Research Engineer, ALC
Dave joined Automated Logic in 1982 and has held a variety of engineering design and management positions. He created ALC's first line of DDC controllers in 1984 along with the “Exec” real-time operating system which is currently in its fourth generation. In the early 1990’s, he created the industry-leading Eikon graphical programing environment and wrote ALC’s first BACnet stack and created the framework for all third-party protocol integrations. In the late 1990’s, after a skunkworks project to research nascent web technologies, he led the software team that created WebCTRL, the industry’s first web-based BAS system. He is a past chair of the BACnet standards committee and longtime leader of its Network Security Working Group. He currently focuses on creating industry standards for Building Automation, IoT, and Smart Grid protocols. Working with the IETF, ASHRAE and others, he is the primary author of BACnet’s secure web services (REST/JSON/OAuth) in addition to its semantics, modeling, and discovery mechanisms. Dave is a graduate of Georgia Tech, with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
